The horror genre has undoubtedly become a bit stale over the years. While there have been some good movies, there have also been many repetitive scares and cliche tropes. Every movie tries to do something new and innovative, but I have never been as impressed with a horror movie as I was with “Late Night with the Devil.” “Late Night with the Devil” is an indie horror movie written and directed by brothers Colin and Cameron Cairnes. It stars David Dastmalchian as late-night host Jack Delroy in a satanic episode of his show “Night Owls.” What viewers see in the movie is a lost episode of “Night Owls” that was recovered with behind-the-scenes shots of the cast and crew as the show gets more and more demonic.

After a few weeks of preparation, members of the Boulder Hill Elementary School Diversity Club presented in front of the board of the Oswego Public Library District (OPLD) on Jan. 24. Passionate about the controversial topic of book banning in schools, they advocated to protect the beloved books in their school community. “[[The kids]] each ended up choosing a book that they've either read about or were interested in and did their focus on that specific book. They talked about why they love the book, what they liked about it, and created like a little slideshow,” said Elizabeth Medina, a fourth-grade teacher at Boulder Hill Elementary and one of the two teachers who run the Diversity Club.

Four band students, freshman Evelyn Vargas, juniors Owen Driscoll and Harley Engdahl, and senior Charlie Snyder, were selected to participate in the Honor Band of America. This year marks unprecedented levels of achievement for the OH band program, as they do  not typically get more than two students selected a year.  “For one school, I would say that's more than we've ever had before,” OH band director Kevin Schoenbach said, “Oh, it's a huge honor, and I know all four of those students are just working super hard.”

PowerSchool struggles persist amid support from tech

School District 308’s switch to PowerSchool continues to bring many problems to staff, students, and parents. Based on student and staff experiences, the transition has been anything but smooth. The most recent issue SD#308 has dealt with took place during the week of Oct. 30.  “PowerSchool did an update to the Google Sync. And what it did was [[create]] for some teachers a repeating of grades; some teachers [[it]] didn't impact at all, some teachers [[were]] impacted a little bit,” Deputy Superintendent Dr. Heather Kincaid said.
