My name is Miranda Cook, and this is my second year being a part of 42Fifty! I am a senior at OHS, and I am on the varsity cheer team. I enjoy taking photos and hanging out with my friends in my free time, and I cannot wait to continue my career in journalism!

Senior Column: High school through my camera lens

Since I was a little girl, I have always loved being in front of the camera. I recorded anything and absolutely everything. As summer was coming to an end, and senior year was approaching, I caught myself spending hours watching videos from when I was younger. It got me thinking, how can I remember my senior year? Beginning the night before the first day of school, I picked up my camera with my friends and began recording. From there, my camera became a part of me, and it experienced the ups and downs of senior year along my side.

On Mar. 12, 2024, OH Athletic Director (AD), Darren Howard, sent an email to staff and coaches announcing his departure from Oswego High School. After serving his position for 12 years at OH, he accepted the AD position at St. Charles East High School.

On Monday, Apr. 22, OH varsity baseball competed against West Aurora (WAHS) to begin their three game series. Playing at Jackie's Field of Dreams, OH was defeated with a final score of 0-5.

IHSA approves girls flag football as a sport for fall of 2024

On Feb. 5, the IHSA board of directors approved girls' flag football as a sport for the fall of 2024. With seeing major involvement in girls' powder puff, a lot of participation is expected in this newfound sport. 

OH jumps into spring sports season

After late February tryouts, each sport has finalized its team and is ready to jump into action. OH Athletic Director Darren Howard reflected on the past season and is working to address potential problems.  “Spring is a challenging season for athletes and coaches. It is the toughest season [[regarding]] weather and changes,” said Howard. “It also carries with it all the student events like spring break, prom, graduation, etc. that make it challenging for student-athletes to stay focused throughout the season.”
