Senior Column: Everyone’s moving on, but I’m falling behind

As I stare at the ceiling, the room is flooded with thoughts. I lose myself in my past dreams and aspirations. I re-wind every scenario, wondering where I could have tried harder, done more, or said something else. I fall deeper into the void of regrets and despair, only to find myself lost and endlessly alone in my thoughts.  I feel helpless knowing I have fallen short of my mother's sacrifices. Her countless hours spent at work, her time spent constantly attending to her children, and working all day just to get home and get a little rest before the working cycle starts again. That is the life she led for the sake of her children, and yet I don’t give it my all.

This summer, there is plenty to get excited about, and one of its highlights is definitely Lollapalooza. Lollapalooza is an annual four-day music festival that occurs at Grant Park, Chicago, IL. This summer's lineup includes  Tyler the Creator, Hoizer, Sza, Stray Kids, The Killers, Future X Metro Boomin, Skrillex, Blink-182, and Melanie Martinez.  "I have heard about Lolla. I have a couple of artists I'm interested in seeing, but I'm more excited about attending since Metro is performing as one of the main artists," said OH senior Christian Acevado Fuetntes.

In celebration of Women's History Month, Netflix's original film Damsel couldn't have arrived at a more opportune moment. Departing from the traditional Damsel-in-distress narrative, this dark fantasy introduces Princess Elodie, played by the renowned actress Millie Bobby Brown.  Anticipation for the film soared due to multiple advertisements for the film on TikTok that piqued the audience's curiosity. “I enjoyed the movie, it's enchanting with its surreal scenes and the drama is what kept me at the edge of my seat. It's not your typical princess movie,” said OH junior Iara Ferrer Nino.

Grammy award winner and Internet sensation Laufey has skyrocketed in terms of recognition and fan base. She is a jazz-inspired pop artist and an idol for hopeless romantics. Earlier this year on Jan. 7 during a small interview conducted by Billboard at the Golden Globes, Laufey teased, “I’m in my ‘goddess era.’” Her new single, ¨Goddess,¨ is, as she has stated, “My most honest song yet.” The song features a relationship between a 21-year-old Laufey and a 30-year-old’s immaturity.

There is significant hype around the Spider-Man franchise, with it garnering immense popularity for its films. However, the film Madame Web disappointingly fails to live up to the hype and greatly disappoints as a film.  OH senior Christian Acevedo Fuentes comments, “I was very disappointed; based on the trailer, I was expecting a more exciting movie.”   The film was released on Feb. 14, and it was flooded with negative reviews.
