Senior Column: A girl’s best friend
As days pass, and adulthood is seemingly inching closer and closer to reality, I feel as if I can’t breathe properly. Time moves so quickly that nothing feels stable. My life is ever-changing with new occurrences and experiences every day. Except one thing has never changed, my “2006 Carters cute as can bee bear” which was given the name Lovey.
Opinion: Dissolving of the Department of Education… It’s only politics, what’s that got to do with us?
On Mar. 20, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order calling for the dissolution of the Department of Education (DoE). This dismantling is led by Trump's stance that the DoE is wasteful and polluted with the liberal agenda. The executive order was aimed at changes regarding DEI, Title 1, and SPED programs. The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBoE) is currently refuting this, stating that these changes conflict with the civil rights of students.
Full circle moment: OH alum Owen Meldon’s “Circlesong” premiered at spring concert
Last year, composer Owen Meldon, an OH alum, sat at his desk and decided to create a new piece of music. Meldon was working on his senior recital at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign when he shifted his focus to create something new to relieve stress. “I spent the three days after my recital just de-stressing, detoxing myself, and just writing a band piece,” Meldon said. “I was bored in my apartment, and I was messing around on my keyboard, plunking up random things.” The plunking then turned into Meldon's award-winning piece, “Circlesong.” The OH Wind ensemble premiered “Circlesong” at their spring concert in full circle fashion on May 6.

Every day, students traverse through the sun, rain, and snow to make it to their cars in the gravel lot. After many complaints from students and staff, OH is now offering PE credit for those who dare to walk. “After protesting for months I finally get to enjoy my walks knowing I get an A+ for it,” said OH senior Jantonio Jondragon.
Removal of hallway music causes divide
OH used to have hallway music during passing periods, but now hallways are all but silent. Why? The lack of music during those six minutes has caused a divide among student opinions.
