As OH students return to school from the latest five-day weekend, with another shortened schedule the following week and another five-day weekend a week after that, students are reminded of the extensive time off scheduled into the fall semester.
"I believe that the loss of days in the fall semester could ineffectively impact the ability for students to learn the skills and content that their classes intend to teach them," OH senior Riley Balhan said about the seven days lost in the fall. "Personally... this change will negatively impact my individual learning this year."
During the creation of this year's school calendar several changes changes were made. While the total number of student attendance days remains the same for the year, all schools in SD#308 were cut short by a week and a half of class time in the fall. Along with this decrease, an extra five-hour-day was added, ultimately reducing class time for students and staff by over seven days during the first semester.
Wednesday night, during OH’s annual Powder Puff game, it was not only the players who were working hard. Behind the scenes, various individually-selected OH football players served as head coaches for this one unique game a year.
“I was selected for this position by my coach, as he picks people from the team that he sees leadership qualities in," said OH senior and senior team coach Danny Claycombe. " [[My football coach]] also [[wanted Power Puff coaches who would]] demonstrate good character to represent an entire team."
The eight senior and eight junior football players were selected before the game to represent their class team as head coaches. These coaches ran various practices and learned numerous skills during their transition from player to coach.
With brand new choreography and 11 senior dancers, the varsity Pantherettes performed at halftime to honor their talented dancers during this year's Senior Night.
“It feels like it’s about to be a fever dream," OH Senior and dancer Aubrey Reding said during the lead up to Friday’s performance. " I never want the night to end, and I’m just really excited.”
On Sept. 4th's Senior Night, the Pantherettes hoped to show off their talents on the field while also allowing themselves to enjoy the celebration.
“My goal is to have a great time and soak in the whole night,” OH senior Alaina Bisgrove said in advance of their performance.
