Flashing lights and the heavy bass filled my chest and head, drowning out all other sounds and thoughts as I stood among hundreds of Bryson Tiller fans at his Neo Trapsoul Tour Concert at Tinley Park.

“I couldn’t believe, like, he [was] right in front of me, and I’m seeing this live compared to just hearing it in my headphones,” said OH junior Emily Estrada of the Sept. 27 concert.

Was it worth the $130 ticket price? Absolutely. It was an indescribable experience to witness one of my favorite artists take the stage, making it hard to believe I was about to hear my favorite songs performed live right in front of me.

The concert was such a unique experience. The glowing lights, smoky venue, and loud music is something not every student experiences often. But the vibes, especially at the Bryson Tiller concert, provide audiences with a once in a lifetime experience.

“There are so many people,” Estrada said, “and everyone was getting together, [it was] so energetic.”

Concerts are a great way to bring people together, to bond over similar music tastes and even share emotions and experiences. It feels good to be surrounded by people who you can relate to. Sometimes unexpected friendships even bloom at concerts.

“My favorite part was when he played Sorrows, and then when Ty Dolla Sign came out and played Cinderella,” said OH junior Maggie Waldron.

Other artists that came out were Ty Dolla Sign and Masjid Jordan as the openers for Bryson Tiller.  Each opener came out for about 30 minutes, and they got the energy they built up and hype of the concert before Tiller came out.

“Sorrow.
That was my favorite song…I feel like the words that he has in the song describes what I’ve gone through” said OH junior Karina Mauricio.

Tiller’s music captivates so many people with his unique art style and lyrics capturing many emotions. Artists connect to their audiences through lyrics that reveal universal experiences, reminding people that they are not alone. So this tour made hundreds, even thousands of peoples nights.

“I feel like listening to it and actually getting to see him and seeing how he sounds the same was a surreal experience,” said Mauricio.

Getting to hear your favorite songs all the way from middle school is one of the most amazing experiences, and hearing it live is so much different than just listening to it on Spotify. The vibes, emotions, and feeling of having that artist right in front of you is indescribable.

“I was just, like, mainly excited because I’ve listened to Bryson Tiller for a long time. I listened to him throughout middle school, so it was just really exciting getting to see him live for the first time,” said Waldron.

Even though Tiller is a very well known artist, his concert tickets were affordable, encouraging many of his fans at OH to attend. Having affordable tickets provided these people with an opportunity of a lifetime.

“I wanted to go because, again, like, I listened to him throughout middle school. And tickets weren’t even a bad price” said Waldron.

Overall, Bryson Tiller’s concert was more than just a night of music for OH students who attended. From hearing their favorite songs live to experiencing the excitement of seeing an artist they had listened to for years, the concert created memories that will last long after the night ended.

With his meaningful lyrics, energetic performance and affordable tickets, Tiller gave fans an opportunity to connect with his music in a new way. For many OH students it was an unforgettable night and experience that made their love for his music stronger.

I know that it made that kind of impact on me.
