OH Student Council held a blood drive last Friday Oct. 17, allowing OH students and staff to come down during any free period they had, to come down and donate blood. Afterwards, they were given a gift to show their appreciation.
“Bringing this event to our school allows more people to get that opportunity to donate and help other people,” said OH senior and Student Council President Melanie Imbronjev.
Each year, OH Student Council holds this special event giving any OH student the opportunity to donate their blood to local hospitals and to Versiti, the local blood bank, that will accept the blood donations to help others who might need a blood transfusion and can not find their own blood type.
“You find out a lot about, like, your blood type and then also you help out a lot of people because you have more blood than you need” Imbronjev said.
This explains why OH Student Council has not stopped doing this blood drive and how it is beneficial to everyone who comes down to donate.
Their team and program is very supportive during this event. “It is a really comfortable environment when you come to the blood drive in the gym, everyone’s here to help,” said OH senior and social media and marketing manager of Student Council Ashley Hahn.
Having this program supports and teaches more and more students about their blood type and why it could be beneficial to them while donating their blood. While donating blood could be a little dangerous and scary to others who have never had their blood drawn before, students still felt motivated to go.
“The company that comes is amazing, super nice, understanding. Like I said, there are snacks and there’s drinks and you do have to go through like a few questionnaires,” said Hahn.
Many OH students here at Oswego do not know much about the blood drive but with student council promotions and having it every year of the school year it helps more and more students find out more about it so that they can have more donors.

After all blood donations are good and finished, The company name that is brought to Oswego High School for this event hosted by Student Council is called Versiti.
“It goes to Versiti, the company that works with us for donations. And then they take it upon themselves to donate it out to different hospitals,” said OH Counselor and Student Council Sponsor Mikaela Manzella. “So that the people that are in need of blood transfusions, they’re able to access the blood donations.”
