On Sat., Jan. 10, OH head football coach Brian Cooney has taken Panther Pride to a national level after being selected to coach in the Navy Bowl, one of the country’s premier high school all-American football games.

“He’s been putting in a lot of work since he started here,” OH senior kicker Kaleb Stumpenhorst said. “He played here and then went through everything.”

The honor of being selected to coach not only put Cooney in the spotlight but the whole Panther football program in the national spotlight, highlighting years of dedication to the program.

Cooney said the opportunity came unexpectedly. “I received a phone call from a member of this All-Star Game who informed me that they would like to extend the opportunity for me to coach in this game.”

Not only is this an amazing opportunity for  Cooney, but it is also an amazing way to put OH in the spotlight, especially after an amazing 2025 football season. Cooney led the OH football program to a 2nd place finish after an amazing regular and playoff season.

Athletic Director Dan Arntzen emphasized the broader impact of Cooney’s selection for the Oswego community.

“It brings recognition to not only Oswego football and the work that he’s done and the coaches have done with the program, but also to the school and community,” said Arntzen.

That connection to his players is very inspirational in how they speak about him. He’s leaving a lasting impression on all of the athletes and students.

“I don’t think any of the here have been recognized for this. This is the first time I’ve seen anybody in our local area be recognized in this way. It really is a special honor, and I’d love to say it would be more routine,” said Arntzen.

“I wasn’t surprised. I know the work that he puts in,” said junior linebacker Caden Cooney.

Caden Cooney and others have been coached by him for years. Caden emphasized the lessons that go far beyond the field.

“Panther Pride in Texas! Oswego is a great place; my home. The community, players, parents, and coaches are among the best. While I’ve really enjoyed this opportunity, I’m looking forward to getting back home and getting to work with the kids once again,” said Brian Cooney.

Everyone back in Oswego is incredibly proud of Brian Cooney and all the work he puts into OH. His dedication is recognized and celebrated.
