OH junior cross country and track runner Bo Breed has many accomplishments and is having a breakout season. He is ready to become a leader and lead the track team to success.

“He takes his leadership role very seriously,” said OH senior Daniel Odutola. “Whenever I see him, you know, it makes me want to try harder.”

Last year, during Breed’s sophomore year, he qualified for State and competed in the New Balance Nationals, where he ran an 800 meter run in 1:59.03. These are huge accomplishments for Breed; they make him stand out and show his work ethic.

“He’s a vital part to this team,” said Odutola, as he is a strong example of effective communication and inspires others to achieve goals. Breed is a leader of the team, and according to his teammates, he will make the team work harder and take the team to another level.

In this cross country season, Breed shows his drive for the team by building them up in practice.

“So when I get to practice, I stretch,” Breed shared. “I stretch out before get ready for my run, [and] do some ABC warm-ups.”

For track athletes, stretching is super important because it boosts flexibility. The flexibility is a very important part, so runners do not pull a muscle or injure themselves. Runners also reported it helps with running faster, so if Breed does not stretch before meets, he -or his teammates- will not reach full potential.

Additional prep helps Breed and his team get ready for upcoming cross country meets. “We do some hurdle drills,” Breed shared.

“And what we have been working on is either a lot of consecutive sprints or hill workouts, then when we get back, we do some band exercises and we stretch as a group, then I go home and do some stretching.”

With a foundation built on hard work and record-breaking performances, the OH track team is now ready for its experience in guiding and inspiring the next generation of athletes. This marks not only a new chapter in their career but also a promising direction for the entire team.

Breed, a very promising track athlete for OH, is looking ahead with his team to IHSA Regionals on Oct. 25, ISA Sectionals on Nov. 1, and ISA State Finals on Nov. 8.

As they look ahead, Breed’s teammates have confidence in his work ethic and performance. “He leads, and he gets the job done,” said Odutola.

The team competes at the Peoria Notre Dame Richard Spring Invite this Sat., Sept. 20 at Detweiler Park.
