OH junior Hannah Herrick has made a name for herself both on and off the volleyball court. After committing to the University of Dayton, she admitted to being eager to start her post-high school athletic career.

“I’m excited to join the Dayton program for meeting new people, getting college-level training, and being able to play against some really good competition,” said Herrick.

Recently committing to continue her volleyball career at the University of Dayton. Herrick, who first picked up the sport at age 11, credits her passion for competition and the support of her teammates for fueling her growth as a player. For her, it’s the competition.

“I think the biggest thing for me was the competitiveness,” Herrick shared. “I just loved competing with my best friends on the court ever since I started.”

Balancing the demands of school, athletics, and the recruiting process has been no easy task. Herrick admits that the journey required sacrifice and dedication.

“The balance between school, volleyball, and the recruiting process is definitely very hard, but for me school is so important. On my days off, I’d still get extra reps in for volleyball, then do homework or study late at night after practice. That became part of my everyday routine,” said Herrick.

Her hard work eventually paid off as she worked through the recruiting process, which included sending countless emails to coaches and sharing highlights on social media. Through it all, her focus remained on improving her game and preparing for the next level.

“The coaches have been awesome since our conversations on day one,” Herrick said about Dayton. “The up-rise in their program, the way they continue to grow and compete, is something I’m super excited to eventually be a part of.”

When asked what she was most excited for in joining a new team she said, “I’m excited to join the Dayton program for meeting new people, getting college-level training, and being able to play against some really good competition.”

While her athletic career is thriving, Herrick also has big goals off the court. She hopes to pursue a future in the medical field after college.

“Pursuing volleyball past college is something I’ve definitely thought about, but for me, I’m really looking into the medical field and hopefully going down that path after college.”

For now, Herrick remains focused on finishing her senior year strong at OH while preparing for the next chapter at Dayton.

At OH, Herrick, who plays lucky number 7, has helped her team earn seven wins and only two losses so far this season. With her competitive drive, discipline, and passion for the game, there’s no doubt she will continue to make an impact at the collegiate level.
