For the second year in a row, 42Fifty has earned an award from the Quill & Scroll Journalism International Honor Society. During the ’24-25 academic year, the OH student news publication staff was thrilled to earn International First Place. Today, the team learned they had outdone themselves by earning the George H. Gallup Award, the highest honor awarded by Quill & Scroll.
“As [one of the Editors-in-Chief], it is very exciting being a part of this publication and being able to help others along the way,” said senior Brandyn Hudson. Hudson shared that earning the Gallup Award means the publication rated Superior in all five evaluation categories. These categories include General Practices, Coverage, Writing and Editing, Visuals, and Digital/ Social Media.
“I hope to see more inspiring journalists to join our student publication so we can grow,” Hudson added.
One of the new members of 42Fifty, senior John Collins, admitted, “I don’t really know a lot about the program considering I’ve only been in it for a few weeks, and I wasn’t a part of it when the award voting was done, but I think it’s pretty cool, and I’m very happy for the people who were involved in getting the award.”
According to the judge’s feedback, “42Fifty is a fantastic all-around publication. They have…this wonderful foundation of clear policies and procedures that allow them to have a consistent look and voice as new staff members join. The writing and editing, as well as the organization of the staff, model that of a professional newsroom. The multimedia and visuals keep readers entertained and engaged. Great work!”
Current Managing Editor and senior Monaco Tiffany, who also served as Satire Editor last year, said, “I felt very proud of our publication. It made me remember all the people we had last year who were so amazing as editors, and the people we still have in our publication for this year.”
