With the end of the school year fast approaching, many people are excited to receive their yearbooks. And the best part of receiving yearbooks is getting signatures from friends.

Those signatures can be a reminder of who that person is for years to come. However, it can be difficult for those graduating to receive signatures from those who aren’t, and vice versa.

“Seniors will receive their books right after graduation practice,” said OH Reflector yearbook advisor Ewa Tulak. “Underclassmen will receive yearbooks during lunches that following Monday.”

This release date makes it difficult to get signatures from friends if one is graduating while the other is not, with non-graduates receiving theirs after senior graduation.

While getting signatures with this release date is, as Tulak said, “not ideal,” there are various potential solutions to this problem.

First, if students are involved in extracurricular activities together, they could get yearbooks signed there. However, there are potential downsides to this solution.

“It would depend on the setting [and] timing,” said OH senior Emma Auten. Many activities are not well suited for seniors to attend after graduation.

Second, prior to graduation, students could bring index cards or post-it notes to be signed, and place those in their yearbook.

“I think it’s fun when people will do almost a scrapbook type thing in the back of their yearbook with the post-its and some Polaroids they took,” said OH senior Annelise Veeder.

Seniors often have their yearbooks at senior graduation parties. If others want them to be signed by that senior, they could bring them to that party.

“If I wanted to bring mine, I usually just sent a message beforehand asking if the graduate would sign my yearbook if I brought it,” said Veeder.

If all else fails, students may simply hang out outside of school and bring yearbooks.

“In past years, I’ve just brought my yearbook to wherever I was hanging out with my friends and they’d bring their yearbooks as well,” said Veeder.

All in all, while there are some difficulties with yearbook signings, there are various solutions that students can use to get signatures.
