Adviser Amy Howerton welcomed thirteen new inductees to the OH William Nunamaker chapter of the Quill & Scroll Journalism Honor Society last month in what is the largest class in the history of the school.

“It is certainly an honor to welcome such a large group,” Howerton said. “But what is so wonderful is that there is so much talent in this group, too.”
The chapter is named after the late OH Assistant Principal William Nunamaker; he was instrumental in supporting the start of OH’s Quill & Scroll chapter as the assistant principal overseeing clubs and organizations at that time.
Co-sponsor for the group, OH Reflector yearbook adviser Ewa Tulak supported the induction ceremony along with senior editors from both student publications. Spring 2025 inductees are listed in the sidebar below.

As members joined and pledged various agreements to the honor society, inductees lit candles and were asked to share what journalism meant to them.
42Fifty Entertainment Editor Gavin Dolan said, “Journalism is an opportunity to be a part of a journalistic team that I love and look forward to every day.”
Inductee Madi Gilio, who is part of both the Reflector yearbook and 42Fifty publication teams, said, “Journalism is expressing ideas in a[n] article form… in other words, happiness!”
Second-year Reflector editor Liam Piekarczyk, who will also join the 42Fifty staff next year, said, “Journalism is a passion that allows me to learn [about] people and share [their] stories.”
42Fifty News Editor Chayse White said, “Journalism is my future and something I [strive] to live up to in my life. It is my passion and is a vital part of my life.”
Inductees earned membership certificates and Quill & Scroll membership pins, signifying their place in the society. Should members uphold all pledges and agreements to the society, honor cords to be worn at graduation may also be earned.
OH student journalists who want to join Quill & Scroll should apply in the December preceding the January/February induction. Students are encouraged to speak with adviser Howerton for more details.

42Fifty is the student media Publication of Oswego High School, Oswego, IL. Stories attributed to 42Fifty are written by editorial staff, or in the case of staff editorial, reflect a quorum of the student staff's ideas and opinions.
