Spring signals the start of a new sports season, as boys and girls approach the track season with hard work and determination to be better they are ready to begin. With the mix of talent from the athletes, they plan to make advancements from the past year.
Whether they are qualifying for state or just going to meets, they are always focused on consistency.
“We had a very disappointing cross country season this fall in which we fell way short of the expectations and goals we set for ourselves, which means we have a lot of guys who are really hungry going into track season.” said senior Adam Kararo.
One of the most notable aspects of this years team is its balance across all the events. Between sprinters and hurdlers to distance runners and throwers, the OH track team is ready for success.
The foundation of this year’s team lies in their experienced athletes. The poor outcome of their cross country performance is making them determined to have a positive and effective season. With a new season starting, there is always preparation in the works of every positive ending.
“Our varsity athletes have run 40 [plus] miles a week for the last couple weeks, and we will definitely keep building that number in the early part of the season,” said Kararo.
This team represents what it means to be determined with just input from Kararo, he definitely speaks for the rest of the team. With support from the team it is so much more than just winning for yourself.
While the team’s veterans are critical, the underclassmen bring energy and potential to the roster. For example, insight from Celeste Jones is telling about how she believes the team will look this year.
Jones shared her thoughts about the new coaching of the team this year. “I think the team is shaping up pretty well with new coaching and technique will help us out this year to win,” she said.
Even though physical preparation is always key for a sports, this team has been working to foster a culture of positivity throughout the start of this season. With a good amount of companionship the team is feeling motivated to push each other all throughout the season.
The teams schedule includes several key meets, and highly anticipated conference championship. With reason, they are ready to do whatever it takes to get through this season with accomplishments.
“We only had one qualifier last year after having four in 2023 and ten in 2022, so we’re hoping to bounce back this year and have a bigger group of qualifiers,” Kararo added.
The all-encompassing goal for this season is clear: they are ready to achieve personal and team bests, break the past school records, and compete for team titles.
