OH Business Professionals of America have officially completed their first regional competition on the 25th of January. The competition took place at Oswego East where Oswego students succeeded and will be attending State.
“The competitions allow students to apply what they have learned in the classroom as well as work with industry professionals to expand their knowledge and experience in the content area,” said club advisor Graham Brown.
The competition at OE had four other schools competing at regionals. With the success of selected members, they will attend State in Oakbrook. The next step after that is Nationals taking place in Orlando, Florida this year.
Before the competition, Brown said his “hope is that we will have some students that are successful at the Regional level and will move on to the State and National level to gain experience in the competitions,” Brown said. He got his wish.
About the competition
The Regional competition took place on Jan. 25.
According to the BPA flyer, the areas of competition will be in finance accounting, computer science, medical, management, computer application, and media.
The testing event can be a great way for participants to obtain important information for their business project. Judges will grade based off their knowledge and overall performance.
“If anyone in BPA were to exceed Regionals, they would move on to State, which is already a great accomplishment. If we make it to Nationals, that would be even better! It would bring a lot of attention to OHS, and winning an award at Nationals could inspire more people to join and get involved in BPA,” said Membership Leader Jia Narr.
About BPA
BPA is one of the many extracurricular activities available to students at OH. BPA focuses on the major aspects of business that students may be interested in.
“The business club is called Business Professionals of America,” Brown said. “It is a competitive club encompassing competitions in finance, Microsoft software applications, coding, digital design, speech, marketing, business consulting, and healthcare and medical applications.”
“My role in the club is the Membership Leader. At meetings, I take attendance to ensure that everyone is present. I also keep members informed by posting reminders and updates on our Google Classroom about upcoming meetings,” Jia Nair said.
What this means for OH
“These founding members will set the foundation for the club moving forward and will help future club members prepare and compete in these events…My expectation is that Oswego High School will continue to grow their membership in the coming years to give students opportunities to compete in events that are of interest to them. ” Brown said.
