Bad Bunny’s new album “DeBí TiRAR MáS FOToS” marked a significant moment in a deeply personal and cultural release on Jan. 5, highlighting his growth as an artist while also honoring his Puerto Rican roots. The album blends traditional reggaeton, pop, and folk sounds while having a mix of personal reflection and a message about preserving culture and identity.
“There are lots of songs throughout it that feel fun and party-like, which is my favorite type of music, but also more chill and toned down songs that give you a nice break in between the songs throughout the album,” said OH senior Makenzie Benz.
The album is musically diverse, mixing genres in creative ways. Songs like “EoO” and “VeLDA’ combine classic reggaeton energy with fresh production styles. Bad Bunny also worked with well-known producers like Tainy to create a unique sound while staying true to his roots. Many tracks were recorded in Puerto Rico, adding authenticity to the album.
“[The album is] trying to say something to the younger people about appreciating what you have and then embracing the moment and remembering the good, these moments that you have because you’re not gonna be here forever,” said OH Spanish teacher Jessica Yandún.
The album focuses on cherishing life’s moments and celebrating Puerto Rican culture. The title reflects the idea of appreciating time with loved ones and capturing memories. Bad Bunny also uses the album to address struggles like colonialism, gentrification, and the loss of local traditions. Songs like “Lo QUE LE PASO A HAWAII” discuss these issues, while others celebrate the island’s rich heritage.
“He is looking more political than ever; I think he is really looking into his roots and making sure people are really loving Puerto Rico as much as he does, and not only loving but respecting it,” said Yandun.
Some tracks explore love, loss, and nostalgia. The title song “DtMF” talks about missed opportunities to save memories. Other songs, like “TUTISTA,” dive into fleeting relationships and emotional challenges, showing a more vulnerable side of Bad Bunny.
He brings people together by combining traditional Puerto Rican music with modern beats to create something that appeals to older and younger listeners. This connection helps keep Puerto Rican traditions alive while making them relatable to a global audience.
