Tyler, The Creator, is one of the most popular artists in the modern world of rap. Released on Oct. 28, his seventh fully released studio album CHROMAKOPIA has propelled him into the front of the hip-hop world.
Many Tyler fans have been going back through his discography— listening to his past albums, comparing them to CHROMAKOPIA, and scoring it among his other releases.
“I would give CHROMAKOPIA a straight, simple 90/100,” said OH junior Roland Stevenson. “There’s a lot of good songs with deep and hidden meanings and I’m a big Tyler fan and I have been for a long time, I just really enjoy his music.”
Another student, OH junior Gabe Velasquez, gave CHROMAKOPIA a simple 90/100 as well.
“It’s just a solid album in my opinion,” said Velasquez. “A lot of songs have very deep meanings to them and I think the bonus track that was on the vinyl was really cool.”
Album of the Year, AOTY, is a created website where thousands of people and music critics share their thoughts on his albums, we will be using scores of users and critics and fusing them with the scores given by students.
With over 16,700 user ratings, the average score from the people came out to 84/100, while the critic score with a total of 20 ratings came to 83/100.
The next album in Tyler, The Creator’s discography is CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST, released on June 25, 2021.
“CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST is one of my favorite straight rap albums that still has the Tyler vibe to it,” said Velasquez. “Tyler has always been on the more alternative side of rap but this album is definitely more of a rap-focused album but still holds much of what makes Tyler himself and to me it’s a 100/100.”
Though many believe CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST is one of his best works, another student that we interviewed, junior Sebastian Simkins, had other thoughts on the overall album.
“It’s good, but there’s just certain things about it that just don’t do it for me,” said Simkins. “I could understand why someone would like it, it’s just that I can’t give it anything higher than like an 84/100.”
The AOTY rankings support Simkins’s point of view, with the user score coming in at 84/100 with over 16,900 ratings and the critic score coming in at 86/100 with 25 ratings.
Tyler, The Creator’s next album is IGOR, released in May, 2019. This album tends to be widely regarded as his best to date. The album is about a love triangle in which he finds himself stuck in a never-ending loop, making it an intense and heavy-hitting album.
“Easy 100/100 for me again,’’ said Velasquez. “It’s such a great album with a beautiful love story and it’s very much a comfort album for many people.”
“Definitely one of my favorite albums of all time and easily my favorite Tyler album,” said Roland Stevenson. “It’s not perfect in my opinion, but it’s still a 96/100 and it’s really great I love it.”
IGOR is the highest-rated album according to the AOTY ratings, with over 26,000 user scores averaging 90/100 and 21 critic scores averaging 85/100.
Going back even further brings us to Tyler, The Creator’s 4th album Flower Boy, created in July ‘17. This album was a definite turning point in Tyler’s career as an artist and person. The album’s narrative is Tyler blossoming into a new person and being more open with his true thoughts, hence the name Flower Boy.
“Flower Boy is just a great album with great production and songs,” said Stevenson. “It’s right up there with IGOR and it’s like a 95/100 to me.”
“I love the production and the vocals and the features and just everything on it is good which makes it a 95/100,” said Velasquez.

Cherry Bomb, Tyler’s album from April, 2015, inherits Tyler’s edgy personality from his debut album Goblin and starts the blossoming of a new and creative way of producing for his future album, “Flower Boy.”
Looking at the scores of AOTY, Cherry Bomb has the lowest score out of all of Tyler, The Creator’s albums ranking with a 66 rating.
After Goblin, Tyler, The Creator dropped his second album in April, 2013, “Wolf.’ This album uses storytelling to tell the tale of two characters, Sam and Wolf, and their fight for one girl.
“Wolf is cool with the whole therapist session vibe and meaning. It’s really cool to listen to,” said Velasquez.
Finally, “Goblin,” Tyler’s debut album that was released in May, 2011. Coming right after his mix tape, Tyler gives his fans a taste of his edgy personality with hit songs like “She.” He shows a much darker side of him with songs like Tron Cat, Yonkers, Radicals, and more.
So which album is the best? After piling up all the scores from the students we interviewed and AOTY scores, the average score of each album from least to greatest is as follows.
Tyler’s discography can be viewed differently by many, some may like his edgy style, others his calm and beautiful storytelling style. Many can see it as bad, many can see it as good, it is only up to the listener to decide.
