As the chilly winter season approaches and fall ends, a popular struggle is how difficult it can be to remain stylish. Like any Midwesterner, OH students need to dress warmly, and there are ways to do that while still being the best version of yourself: fashionable and festive.
“I think staying warm while being fashionable during wintertime is possible, if not easier, as you can usually mix and match clothes without overheating or just add a long sleeve shirt to another outfit,” said junior Joelynn Portillo. “However, choosing an outfit is a little tricky as you never know the school’s temperature.”
The frigid air may make one not care how they dress, but there are ways to be cozy while still feeling confident. There are more possibilities for style during this time, like wearing more clothes and styling them differently, unlike during the summer, when fewer clothes are usually worn due to the rising temperatures.
Senior Shaniya Love said, “I do believe there are ways to stay fashionable while still staying warm because there are accessories you can add to your outfits to still be fashionable like Ugg boots, glitter scarfs, name brand jackets, and fashionable gloves.”
With differing styles, there are still numerous ways to dress warmly while being confident in an outfit. For example, a way to do this is by wearing a skirt with thermal tights and leg warmers over them. Wearing items one usually couldn’t during the cold times, like a skirt, could help to expand your fashion horizon.
“During the winter, I like layering my clothes. Long sleeves are my go-to, as you can wear them under shirts, hoodies, or as is, and you can also wear thicker pants like sweatpants or jeans,” Portillo said.
If one wants to feel comfortable and stylish on a budget, there are many ways: thrifting in person or online, through Depop, Thredup, or Poshmark.
“Thrifting can get you good cold weather clothes and save you a buck, as well as Burlington and any store in the mall,” said senior Haven Thomas-Johnson. “A lot of clothing places change their selections for the winter and fall so you can pretty much go anywhere to get clothes, and online of course.”
Do not feel uninspired this winter season, as there are endless possibilities for one to express themselves no matter the temperature. Finding style this season can make one feel like “walking in a winter wonderland.”
