Conquering the court: Girls varsity volleyball season recap

From the first win against Waubonsee Valley High School to winning Regionals, the OH girls volleyball team played to their fullest potential according to Head Coach Gary Mosley.

“I’m extremely proud of them. Do I think they played to their fullest potential? Absolutely. Above their potential. As a team, the growth they made from the beginning to the end was impressive so they exceeded my expectations,” said Mosley.

When senior Kelsey Foster looked back on what she feels they accomplished this season, she recalls that they accomplished a sense of family, which she said was Coach Mosley’s biggest goal.

“He wanted our program to really have a tight unit and be a family,” said Foster. “I think that’s why we were so successful: because we could achieve family by team bonding, always talking, communicating with one another, and being able to share dark moments and our wins and losses.”

The season had so many accomplishments that the team got caught up in the excitement. Each moment was thrilling and there was a rush of moving through everything so quickly.

“I would have tried to step back more and embrace those moments,” said Mosley. “As a coach you get caught up in the ‘what’s next’ that you forget to embrace those precious moments. If I could, I would go back, sit back, and reflect on those individual accomplishments as they were happening.”

The OH varsity volleyball teams’ trust in each other and coaches has led them to victories that other teams in the past couldn’t have ever imagined. Seeing our own OH team conquer the court shows the importance of teamwork and perseverance.

“You can come back from a hard loss and obstacles like we had our junior year and like pick up where we [left] off,” said Foster. “You can get farther than you guys ever thought if you all work together and everyone plays their own on the team.”

Looking back at the season Coach Mosley had nothing but positive things to say. He has high hopes for the players who will continue in the Panther volleyball program.

“Through hard work, dedication, and positive vibes you can achieve anything you want to, and that’s what these ladies have done this year, and can continue doing forward.”

For all of the new and incoming OH panther volleyball players this varsity team has nothing but good advice for the younger generation. These varsity girls have paved the way for so many younger generations to come after them.

Senior Alexis Terrazas’s last advice is, “Work hard try your hardest. You are the new face of the program so you need to hold our legacy and carry it on.”
