Fall is one of the biggest seasons for fashion. In particular, females and social media rave for the fall season to post their trendy outfits. Many OH students dress up for the 2024 fall season and local boutiques are all set with their fall collections. Social media has greatly impacted the fall fashion industry, making it one of the trending seasons over the years. Many public figures participate in fall fashion trends, influencing their viewers, such as OH students and local boutiques to invest in fall fashion.
Various students have used influencers and celebrities as inspiration for their fashion. Social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok are huge fall fashion influences for students. From Ugg boots to bows, students follow the various trends they see online.
“I would say Taylor Swift has good fall fashion because she utilizes a lot of warm fall sweaters and cardigans and even has a song called Cardigan,” said OH senior Natalie Aguilar.
Seeing celebrities like Swift following fall fashion will likely have more inspiration for students.
Ugg boots have been a big hit since the early 2000s, but 2024’s fall fashion trends have given them a fresh new look. They now are designed shorter than the long-cut boots in the 2000s.
“In my opinion, some fall fashion essentials are definitely any pair of Uggs and cute little dainty jewelry. Bows are very much considered in my book, too,” said Aguilar.
Jewelry and comfy clothing are essential pieces for fall. Local downtown Oswego businesses like Mod Stitch Company and Bella-Gia Boutique showcase their various fall fashion collections influenced by the media.
“At Mod, our focus this fall is on timeless and comfy styles with some trending twists. We are loving super soft cozy fabrics and wide-leg denim this fall,” said Mod Stitch Owner Meg Sluder.
Both Mod Stitch Company and Bella-Gia Boutique agree that jeans are an essential clothing piece for fall fashion. Jeans can be worn year-round, but it’s essentially used in fall outfits.
“[My favorite item for fall fashion is] for sure denim since the style has changed and wide-leg and cropped styles are huge right now,” said Bella Gia employee Stacy Shaw.
“I am also loving the relaxed leg denim [[…]] [my] favorite looks include jeans paired with any simple top and accessories,” said Sluder.
Similarly, Aguilar shared ideas about jean fashion. “Baggy jeans are also another major trend for fall fashion, as well as any cozy knitted cardigan or sweater in autumn shades,” said Aguilar.
The fall season ranges from semi-warm weather to freezing cold weather. Any kind of sweater or cardigan is needed to survive the unpredictable temperatures in Oswego.
“No surprise, striped sweaters, and solid-colored cardigans remain a classic constant because they function as a fashionable layer of warmth,” said Sluder.
Vests are another alternative to sweaters and cardigans. They come in lengths from regular to cropped and provide the same warmth as the popular comfy sweaters and cardigans we are used to.
“Vests are an essential this fall [and I am] seeing lots of knit and faux leather [being used],” said Shaw.
For fall fashion, simple tops can be used if you are using various accessories such as a hat, earrings, necklace, etc. However, Oswegoians can spice up their outfits more by adding fun colors and patterns.
“I love tops with fun patterns, perfect color combos, and a unique mix of textures,” said Sluder.
Similarly, Aguilar offered advice about fall tops. “You can find simple tops for fall fashion pretty much at almost every store, but I think the best stores are Hollister and H&M,” said Aguilar.
Fall fashion has been a popular trend for decades, particularly with women, and the current best items include bows, jeans, cardigans, vests, sweaters, and dainty jewelry. The trend continues to change every year as social media and well-known figures influence the change in direction, but overall, fall is a season for welcoming stylish outfits and comfy looks.
