On Friday, Sept. 13, OH senior Sean Fader passed away after attending an away football game.

His memorial service took place on Thursday, Sept. 19, from 3 to 7 p.m., and was attended by hundreds of students, faculty, and community members who wished to honor his impact here at OH.

Sean was a life-long member of the Oswego community: he participated in OH volleyball and golf, was a leader of the Orange Crew, and worked for the Oswegoland Park District. He has been honored in a variety of ways by students and staff at OH, including signs during the Homecoming Parade on Sept. 19, a “blue out” spirit day in his honor, a wall of notes for him in the main hallway, blue ribbons tied around trees and in students’ hair, and an incredibly-sized GoFundMe for a scholarship in his name.

Students at OH have coined the hashtag #LLSF (Long Live Sean Fader) as a way to share posts online to keep his memory alive.

The Fader family has seen an outpouring of support and love for their son and will continue to be supported by the community for years to come. One way for students to honor his memory is through a GoFundMe donation to the Sean Fader Memorial Scholarship. As of publishing, this scholarship has amounted to almost $55,000, far surpassing its goal of $15,000.

According to the GoFundMe website, all donations to the Sean Fader Memorial Scholarhip will go directly back to the student body.

As of publishing, in addition to the outpouring of monetary donations, 32 trees will be planted in his honor, funded by members of the Oswego community. Donations have continued to pour in, keeping Fader’s memory alive. For anyone wishing to donate trees or flowers to his family, they can do so on his official obituary page.

If you or anyone you know is struggling with loss, feelings of grief, or simply need emotional help, they are welcome to reach out to supportive staff in Student Services. The Panther Pause Room and mental health services are available in the Student Services office.
