On Sept. 13, the OH Homecoming Court was announced by Student Council President senior Kyra Pattison. Seniors who ran for the court listened eagerly to see if they made it, and tomorrow the court will find out who will be named king and queen at the OH Homecoming Pep Assembly.

Earlier this month, the Homecoming Court ballot was sent to seniors as they selected five kings and five queens to nominate for the court.

“We get as much input as possible, so I think that’s important to have everyone get a chance to [have] a say,” said Student Council sponsor Jacob Cafero.

The ’24-’25 nominees for OH Homecoming King were Peter Barnes, Josh Cardenas, Michael Claycombe, Jackson Daylor, and Dylan King. The nominees for OH Homecoming Queen were Ashley Deal, Bryli Elizondo, Julia Matile, Grace Misek, and Ava Sullivan.

“I was not too nervous for the announcement, I was honestly just more excited! I knew they were going to announce it during second period so I was pretty prepared, after they announced it I was feeling super excited!” Matile said after the announcement.

After the first round of voting and the court announcement, there is another survey that allows seniors to vote for one King and one Queen of their choice.

To promote their campaigns, seniors make social media posts and accounts, “I made a post to vote for me and my boyfriend, Jackson Daylor who also made the court, on Snapchat and Instagram,” said Deal.

The accounts and posts help spread the word of court, usually including funny pictures of the running mates.

“My friends [[…]] made an Instagram account for my boyfriend and I called ‘jikey4hoco,’” Matile explained, “It was just silly photos saying things like ‘vote for Jikey’ and funny videos of us that they made.”

Homecoming Court participates in many homecoming traditions like parades and football games. “It’s tradition [[…]] just getting a chance to be a part of the festivities and the excitement of homecoming week,” Cafero said.
