As the fall sports season progresses, the OH varsity boys soccer team has showcased not only their talent but also their relentless determination on the field. With a mix of players and promising young talent, the team has been working hard to make their mark in the competitive high school soccer environment.

“I think we have great chemistry this year, so we work well as a team on and off the field, and I think that’ll help us with wins this year,” said senior and team captain Lucas Ensign.

While this season holds promise, the program’s future looks even brighter. The team has a solid foundation with several underclassmen already making an impact.

Goalkeeper Cristian Lopez may be the only freshman on the varsity team, but he is able to withstand the pressure to stay calm and collected on the field.

“I build my teammates trust by playing well,” Lopez said. “I have to talk and boost my teammates morale to have a better game.”

Junior left back Tate Edwards communicated the skills he learns for soccer go beyond benefiting him on the field.

He said leadership as a skill has helped him be more confident in both areas of his life. Helping him grow as an athlete to be a good teammate, player, and overall role model for younger athletes.

Ensign then speaks upon the importance of keeping your head up. “[We] look past the injuries and to the future games and getting to the playoffs. This keeps us motivated throughout the season.”

As the season progresses, OH will face several challenging opponents in their conference, making them want the title even more. Despite these struggles, the team will remain focused on their goals, with hopes of securing a playoff spot.

“Our goals are to hopefully go further in the playoffs, as well as win Sectionals and Conference,” Ensign said

With a mix of skill, determination, and team spirit, the OH boys soccer team is on a path of growth that promises an exciting future for the program.
