On Jan. 6, 2023, SD308 notified students through email that Oswego High School would utilize “Here Comes the Bus,” a bus tracking app to help students know where their bus is in the morning and afternoon.
“My bus was late like two times a week” said OHS senior Arianna Ferraro, She benefits “Because [I don’t] have to stand in the cold.”
To sign up or log into the application, students will need to enter their student ID number and the school’s code, 3080. Upon entering the app, there are terms of use waiting to be accepted before usage.
The app notifies students and parents before the bus approaches their stop, and the website also has the same functions.
On the app, students will find a map of the Oswego area, as well as two pinned areas: your bus and your bus stop. Before the bus arrives your stop icon will be red, but when the bus has already made it past your stop it will turn green.
SD308 Transportation Director Michael DeArmond mentions there “are always issues regarding safety. Parents are concerned about their kids during the winter.”
Before the app, students and buses being late was a serious issue. This new addition can help students be timely and safe in cases of cold weather.
This app was selected to help students, especially during the cold and snowy winter days that are approaching. The time students spend standing by the side of the road can decrease, and they won’t have to wait in the dark, freezing temperatures, pouring rain, or the hot sun.
This application allows students and parents to stay updated on their transportation to make sure they are getting to and from school safely and efficiently.
As the app is just starting to kick off, there have been a couple of technical issues. DeArmond has had “multiple phone calls with parents that were experiencing glitches these past weeks.”
So far, issues have been resolved and the app is starting to run more smoothly.
The website is also very dedicated to improvement and efficiency. You will be able to find case studies based on the app and in-depth stories or videos of bus drivers’ experiences with this app.
