When it comes to studying for midterms, students can find it to be very difficult and can often cause an excruciating amount of stress. Luckily, there are many different methods that can help students to feel more at ease, learn quickly, and get the grade they hope for.

It is important to make sure that students are able to know their preferred learning styles because it helps to influence the way that they approach problems and process information.

When asked the question, what are different tips when it comes to studying that you would recommend to other students, senior at Oswego High School Ava Lang states, “I like to study in a coffee  house outside of my home, because I feel too distracted at home. I like a quiet place where I have no distractions.”

When it comes to the environment that you are in when studying it can be very easy to get comfortable in your own bed or couch which leads to procrastination and getting distracted more easily.

Studying in different areas that are more unfamiliar to you such as libraries or cafes can often  help to enhance focus and concentration on studying. Making sure that these areas are not too quiet or at least easy to concentrate in is crucial, this can help the decrease in distractions.

Having some time of background noise can actually help the brain concentrate more than it would in complete silence. This is not the case for everybody but it is commonly known as a good way to make the environment sound to help make it more easy to study in.

When asked what are some different methods students should use to study,John Hugin a teacher at Oswego High School states, “Figure out what it is you don’t know, and then focus your time on that. Quizzing yourself, rewriting, relabelling, relisting. Anything that is going to put you on the spot for what you don’t know.”

Students being able to really test yourself on what knowledge you know without looking at any kind of information can help you to know where you are at and what you specifically need to focus on.

It is often a question how long students should study for and how often it should be done, it deeply depends on the person and the material being studied.

Hugin states, “ I would go in 30 minute blocks I didn’t want to ever study too long because I just felt like I was staring at stuff after a while so I would go 30 minutes on and an hour off and just come back to it until I felt confident and those things I did not know  before I felt more confident with.”

It is very important to prioritize not taking long periods of time to study, take breaks to help enhance the ability to keep studying and allow for all the information to really sink in making it easier to remember each.

Making sure to focus on one subject at a time can be very beneficial and help to enhance the learning process of that subject faster than it would be if there were multiple subjects being focused on.

This helps to cause less pressure and stress when it comes to all the different information being needed to study, which then can help with memorizing.

It is always important to make sure that time is being managed well and that each subject has just enough time needed to help receive just the right amount of information needed for the exam.

Time management is not only based on how much time is being spent studying, it is also prioritizing the amount of sleep you’re getting before you study.

When it comes to the amount of sleep you’re getting it is deeply important to never study more than you’re sleeping, aiming for at least 7 or more helps to enhance memory and ability to learn efficiently. More sleep will help the mind to focus better than it would off a low amount of sleep.

When midterms finally approach reviewing notes is important however making sure to have a good amount of sleep and morning breakfast are deeply prioritized to help in a variety of ways in the long run when taking these tests.
