Looking for fun things to entertain yourself with this holiday season? Check out some Christmas lights in our community!

“Me and my friends went to Millennium Park to see the tree get lit up and it was so pretty,” said OH junior Ashley Deal. Getting together with friends in a Christmas setting is a great chance to bond.

It’s fun to get out and enjoy some Christmas lights shining bright in the chilly winter. It is a great way to bond with any of your loved ones during this time. If you are someone who loves the holiday season, join the fun now before the bitter winter sets in and the inside cozy times come.

In addition to locations that are more of a drive, there are many ways to look at lights close to home. If you get bored or just want to get out of the house, take a drive to enjoy the holiday season. OH students are marking the map with new light show discoveries. Here are a few places you can visit.

Morton Arboretum: The 11th Annual Illumination Tree Lights

The Morton Arboretum is located right in Lisle, Illinois, which is about 45 minutes away from Oswego. This the 11th Illumination event, which comes with some new features. The one mile path is now fully ADA compliant for guests with limited mobility. This exhibit is spread out on about 50 acres of land filled with trees and lights galore.

This attraction will remain open until Jan. 6. Tickets must be purchased, but the prices vary on the day of the week. It is more affordable to visit this attraction during the week with prices from $23.50, while the weekend tickets are $39.75.  If you are interested in the one mile path of trees at the Morton Arboretum, check out their website for tickets and any special events they have coming up.

The Aurora Festival of Lights

The Aurora Festival of Lights is a one mile drive around Philips Park which is a 15 minute drive from Oswego. This is a completely free, non-profit event to bring families and friends together. Although this event is free, tickets still need to be reserved online for entry. You can enjoy the entertaining drive while also tuning into their closed-circuit radio station. When the drive is over, donations are accepted at the end but not required. More than 50,000 vehicles visited last year, so make sure you get a chance to go. The exhibit lasts each night until Christmas from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Naperville Home: Taylor Swift themed lights

“Me and my friends went to the library and we passed a house that was fully decorated with Taylor Swift!” said OH junior Addison Binder.

This house is located at 1228 Atlas Ln, which is about 25 minutes away from Oswego. This home has created lots of love for Taylor all the LOVERs, and has made the news multiple times in the past week. The owners, the Scott Family, have created an amazing display that is completely free to visit, however they are accepting donations for the Naperville Little Friends organization. The show starts around 4:30 p.m. each night. This is an amazing activity to get out of the house to visit close to home.

Enjoy the holidays and spread Christmas joy, keep the spirit up by visiting some of these exhibits.
