On Thursday, Sept. 15, the Oswego Panthers varsity football team (2-2) took a big win against the Romeoville Spartans (0-4). The Panthers football team set out to play their fourth game in the 2022-2023 season at home. The win gave the Panthers their first home game win of the season. This was the teams first conference game of the season.
This game had a large amount of the Oswego community involved, including the Future Panther Football and Cheer. The Future Panther Football and Cheerleaders are the younger kids who will be coming up in the program in the following years. The future Panther football players got to be included on the field during warm-ups and cheering for the team on the sidelines. During the halftime show, the future panther cheerleaders did a collaborative performance with the OHS cheer team. The varsity cheer squad had girls from fourth to eighth grade. While the jv squad had girls fourth grade and under.
The Panthers started the game strong by scoring four touchdowns in the first quarter, giving the Panthers a 28-0 lead over the Spartans. Continuing this lead into the second quarter, the Panthers dominate the field and scored two more touchdowns, ending with a 42-0 lead going into the half.
Starting the third with a 42-0 lead, the Spartans started moving toward the end zone. Romeoville scored its first touchdown of the game at the tail end of the third, making the score 42-7. This however did not bring the Panther’s energy down, and they matched the Spartans’ touchdown rounding out the third 49-7.
Kicking off the fourth, the Spartans feel the intense pressure as the game comes to an end, by letting the OH score yet another touchdown. The Panthers scored eight total touchdowns throughout the game, finalizing the score at 56-7.
This game made them ranked second in the Southwest Prairie-West Conference. The Panthers currently hold a 2-2 record, Playing Minooka Indians (3-1) today. Game kick-off time is at 7 p.m.
