EDITOR APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY 5 P.M. ON TUESDAY, MAY 5. Fill out the application here. Interviews begin Wednesday, May 6, via Google Meet. Sign up for an interview here.

42Fifty is the student news and media website for Oswego High School. Everything is created, edited, and published by students, for students. The student staff consists of a number of editors, along with staff writers and producers.

Student editors are students who have exemplary writing, editing, and leadership skills. There are also some editorial positions that focus less on writing and more on artistic and/or technological skills. As leaders of the publication, it is essential that all student editors are approachable and have the ability to work well with their peers. While not required, it certainly doesn’t hurt to have some knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, etc.) or other digital editing programs.

Student editors must also be enthusiastic and willing to dedicate a large amount of time and energy to their work. You will be asked to do more than others in the course who are not in editorial positions.

Journalism experience is a plus, but is not required. Many of our editors came into their roles never having written a journalistic article. As long as you are a strong writer and a flexible learner, you can learn on the job!

In order to be considered for an editorial position, editors must be enrolled in Digital Journalism 1 or 2, or Directed Study, for the entire school year.

Below are the descriptions of each specific position. If you have questions about any of these positions or the application process, contact the faculty adviser, Ms. Hands, at shands@sd308.org
