Senior Column: To the people we keep

As our lives move through time, we find people who change the way we see the world. As beings, we ebb and flow in ever-changing harmony, each day a different form of ourselves than the last. Sometimes, I find myself lost in the vastness of our reality. In a world so huge, with so many people, where do we find meaning? What I have found throughout my life is that I find meaning through the people I know.

You know that feeling when you have to go to the bathroom during a movie or play, but just don’t want to leave because it is so good?  That’s what happened to me, ironically, during OH’s Standing O Theatre Company’s (SOTC) recent performance of “Urinetown.”  Honestly, it was that good. I sat there gripping the armrests of my chair, glued to my seat because I refused to miss a moment of the show. The quality and humor in the show far surpassed my expectations. With witty humor, an exemplary cast of characters, and catchy songs throughout, "Urinetown" did not disappoint.

At OH, the deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) community shines bright as a part of Oswego High School. In honor of National Deaf History Month, OH has never been better prepared to celebrate. Deaf History Month is celebrated in April and was introduced in 1997 by the National Association of the Deaf. However, deaf history goes well beyond the late 90s. The American School for the Deaf was founded in 1817, marking the beginning of DHH inclusion efforts. Then, in 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law. Now, schools, including OH offer specialized education plans curated to meet students' needs to ensure equal education access.
