OH senior Brandon Guzman recently started selling homemade desserts after discovering a passion for baking. Inspired by desserts and treats he saw online, he created postresdebrandon Insta to share his skills and reach a wider audience in his community. His small business has already gained attention from students hungry to try his desserts. “What inspired me was seeing so many pastries on the Internet, and I have a passion for baking as well," said Guzman. "I made it with the sole purpose of selling my pastries to see what people opinionated about them! I created my page on Instagram to promote my business and to reach out to a broader audience, and so far it has been going well,” a modest Guzman smiled.

Thinking inside a tiny box: Students take part in 4×5 Art Exhibition

Self-titled the "largest 'small' art exhibit in the nation," OH has become the proud home to the Chicagoland 4x5 Art Exhibition, an event that showcases creativity and skill through student’s small, detailed artworks. The show features art from various schools, each student limited to only 4-by-5-inch canvas to work with. And OH student talent was again a central part of this year's exhibit on Nov. 5. “The most unique part is that anything entered into the show has to be exactly four inches by five inches. That’s very different from most high school-level art competitions," said OH art teacher Daniel Whipple. "Usually, you can make your piece whatever size you want, or sometimes galleries limit you based on wall space.”

In the world of high school seniors, balancing schoolwork, social life, and future plans can be challenging. But for one talented student, creativity shines through in a unique way- a skilled nail artist.  What started as a simple hobby quickly grew into something much bigger. With dedication and practice, she gained her skills by experimenting with different colors, patterns, and techniques.  “I started the hobby of doing my own nails in June 2023. When I first started, I didn’t even think it would be a business or anything. I just wanted to have cute nails and not pay a crazy amount at salons,” said OH senior Julie Martinez.

Deftones' return with their new 10th album called “Private Music,” introducing new music after 30 years since their debut. The release has brought a mix of reactions from fans, with some surprised and others impressed. OH senior Nicholas Gallo admitted that the album wasn’t what he expected. “I wasn’t that excited for Private Music because I thought Deftones went downhill. But 'Private Music' felt like a step above 'Ohms.'” 'Ohms' is Deftones’ ninth album, and Gallo said the new release surprised him by showing the band’s growth from their last album compared to their newer one.

OH’s football themes are a huge part of the school's fall spirit and helps to create an atmosphere like no other. Dressing up for football games with the Orange Crew football game themes shows students' passions to have fun and cheer on the OHS Panthers. Senior Orange Crew member Greyson Covay, who helped create this year’s football themes, said, “The Orange Crew members met up and decided which themes would work best depending on the week, month, and the [[football game]] opponent,” Covay said.
