Senior Column: The waiting game
My desire for time to move faster has conflicted with my despair of getting older for my entire high school career. I’ve cried at last concerts, last days of school, and countless other lasts, all while speeding out of classrooms, crossing off squares on my calendar, and praying the days would pass quicker.
Leave it better than you found it: Dr. Patti Marcinko’s legacy at OH
Patti Marcinko has been serving as the Director of Student Services at OH for 24 years, but will be retiring before the start of the next school year. After being in the district since 1990, her absence will be a huge loss for the Panther community.
Track and field athletes begin the leap toward outdoor season
OH track and field athletes have been working for a successful season, but with spring break approaching, they are starting to transition into the back half of the year with the outdoor season. During the team’s full season, they do half indoors, with most of their meets taking place within other schools’ field houses. Then, after spring break and the weather warms, they transition outdoors.
OH readers await “Sunrise on the Reaping,” the next Hunger Games installment
“I think it being a movie series definitely makes [[the books]] more popular,” said OH English teacher Abby Bartle. “I think a lot of kids have watched the movies, even like The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes… then decided to pick up the book because that was our ‘One Book One School’ [[title]].”
Opinion: Rediscover the love of reading
Once upon a time, reading was the most popular pastime for people, specifically students. However, presently, with constant competition for students’ attention, reading has become more of a rarity. “I feel like I never get time to read," said OH senior Gabi Concepcion. "Usually, I will read for at least 15 minutes a day, but it depends." Students are chronically short on time. Between sports, homework, jobs, and other extracurriculars, it’s hard to have time to do the things they enjoy outside of school. This can become an issue when students rely on these other activities or hobbies to have a sense of joy in their lives.
