OH alum Jacob Watts’ ‘Socially Distanced’ art exhibit impresses
Jacob Watts is a strong example of someone who OH student artists can look up to for inspiration. His growth and success as an artist since graduating from OH in 2008 are seen most easily within his expressive works, which have spread across the Chicagoland area. “You just have to put in the work of honing your craft and choosing the resources around you, which does depend [[…]] there are also a lot of resources outside of [[classes]] to help push our careers as well,” said Watts.
Do you like jazz? Big Band Nite is for you
OH jazz bands prepared for their annual Big Band Nite performance, which returned this year. As per tradition, OH invited a guest band to play after the student-filled jazz groups performed their tunes in the OH auditorium. “The Chicagoland Jazz Educators Big Band. It’s a band that I put together, and everybody in the band is involved in education in some way, shape or form, and they’re monster players,” said OH band director Kevin Schoenbach. “They have a passion for playing music that kind of keeps the tradition of Big Band alive.”
Joker, Folie à Deux: An unexpected musical on mental health
Joker (2019), heavily acclaimed for its commentary on society's views on mental health, is followed by Joker: Folie à Deux (2024), the recently-released sequel that strays from the psychological thriller genre and into musical territory. According to an article titled “Analysing Joker: an attempt to establish diagnosis for a film icon” by Department Chair Valentin Skryabin of the Moscow Department of Public Health, it is likely that the Joker portrayed in the films has a narcissistic personality disorder since Arthur Fleck is “often preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty or ideal love” said Skryabin.
Varsity girls golf team scores a close win at Regionals
The Oswego girls' golf team, a Co-op team between OE and OH, successfully finished their season at regionals. On October 2nd, at Whitetail Ridge in Yorkville, the Oswego girls' golf team scored gold at regionals after a tight victory.
