The OH track season has started, and the first few track meets of the season are officially underway. The boys’ first track meet was Thurs., Feb. 13, at Addison Trail High School. “[[The]] track meet on Thursday went pretty good. We had a lot of athletes getting first place, [[and]] a lot of them got new personal records. You can see the talent in the new people this year,” said OH senior track athlete Michael Wallace.

Sabrina Carpenter recently released her deluxe version of the Grammy award-winning album “Short n’ Sweet." However, people have mixed feelings about the additional 15 minutes of deluxe tracks, resulting in both good and bad reviews. “[[The]] themes she takes from other genres or other eras... it all revolves around things that were popular," said OH music teacher Tyler White. "So, like, she has Dolly Parton collaborate in one of those songs there,” said OH music teacher Tyler White. “There’s a little of that country twang... and that was very popular when Dolly Parton was around, and country is… kind of back.”

In previous years, the OH winter play was under the title of Skits and Giggles, performing various skits created by OH students. This year, students had roughly 24 hours over the course of four days, to write, direct, rehearse, and perform a short play. “First we start off with auditioning cast members [[Jan. 27]], making sure that we know what roles they want to do. Then, we make ideas on [[Jan. 29]] the second day of planning. Then yesterday, Friday [[Jan. 31]], we were here from 2:30 to 10:00 writing this entire script. Actors didn’t come until around seven o’clock,” said senior and Standing O Theatre Company member AJ Mondragon.

Kendall 11 operates in Oswego, Illinois, under the company Classic Cinemas. The local theater recently made some changes to its seating, and the final touches are expected to be finished in February. “We are reopening that [[GDX]] auditorium for Captain America. It opens on February 14th, but there’s a day before preview on February 13th. But if everything goes correctly, we’re actually going to have the same seats that we have in the other ten auditoriums, but they’re [[also]] going to have massaging seats,” said Classic Cinemas CEO Chris Johnson.

Amid student questions, OH removes most recycling bins

At the beginning of the school year, staff and students noticed that aluminum cans and plastic bottle recycling bins were no longer present in many classrooms as they were before. In a school as large as OH, this removal of bins has the potential to make a significant impact on the environment.  “We noticed the can and plastic bottle bins were absent, and I did ask about that, and my understanding was [[that]] we don’t have the staffing to handle both sets of bins in every room all the time,” said Environmental Science teacher Zachary Horn.
