Last week, OH’s Standing O Theater Company performed Peter and the Starcatcher to excited student body attendees and community members.
The play, performed at the OH Dave and Donna Barnes Theater on-stage from Oct. 13-17, tells the story of Peter Pan's upbringing, who was originally a poor orphan boy when he and his friends got shipped off from Victorian England. It’s an eye-catching and humor filled adventure, and the people seemed to love it.
“I really do like the story of Peter and the Starcatcher" said OH junior and cast member Ava Burkhardt. "It’s really interesting to see how everything came to be. It makes you think deeper into the plot. Personally, I think it [[was]] a really cute show!”
Due to a lack of interest, OH Student Council has once again cancelled the annual Oswego Pageant.
Formerly known as “Mr. Oswego,” the Oswego Pageant is a talent show arranged every year by OH Student Council where Seniors can compete for the title of Mr. Oswego. This year, Mr. Oswego was renamed the Oswego Pageant in honor of senior girls being added to the list of people that can participate in the talent show.
“Last year was Mr. Oswego, but this year's Senior Showcase [[tried to get]] more people involved [[by including]] the senior girls,” OH Student Council President Melanie Imbronjev said.
September 7: Empty halls fill the school, and it’s as quiet as can be. The reason? Labor Day, a federal holiday that most people get off of school and work, though not many know why. Nor do they tend to care.
“I'm honestly somewhat ignorant to it. I know it's part of those who work. I'm assuming that it was for the industrial workers who never really got a day off,” OH Pianist and Teacher Tyler White said.
And although he’s close, he’s not on the dot! Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1916 when an unknown industrial worker fought to declare a national holiday for all, even students. And even 110 years later, this holiday brings people together.
“Labor day is the last day that the Bristol renaissance fair is open so normally me and my family spend the day there,” OH Senior Yvette Lapidus said.
