Illinois is the only midwest state that is not playing football. Michigan and Minnesota recently overturned their original decisions to not play football in the fall. Indiana and Iowa have been playing football without any change of schedule since their summer contact days. “Let us play” protests were scheduled for Saturday prior to the governor’s announcement.
The graduation process will occur over the span of three days, taking place on June 16, 17, and 18. Each graduate will be given a specific time between 8 am and 5 pm, where they will arrive at their high school and will hold no more than 10 students at a time.
Both prom and graduation had to be postponed after the Illinois Stay at Home Order was extended to April 30. This also follows an email from Oswego High School principal Mr. Mike Wayne on April 3 in which he promised to reschedule events that help to define a senior year.
These emails come after Governor JB Pritzker extended the Stay at Home order on March 31 through the end of April. As a result, all school buildings will have to remain closed until April 30. Many events, including spring sports and prom were slated to take place over the next month, but the closure of schools has forced their cancelations.
In a precautionary measure against COVID-19, an email sent to both students and parents Friday afternoon stated that Oswego School District 308 students will not be in attendance March 16-20. Spring break will still be observed March 23-27.
