On Sep. 21, the OH flag football team competed against Plainfield North at Ken Pickerill Stadium to help celebrate the Class of 2027 senior players. With three amazing touchdowns, 28 total glad pulls, two sacks, and a 18-0 score, seniors added another win to their 3-2 record, securing a #22 ranking in Illinois.
“It’s been amazing,” OH senior Makayla Hill said as she reflected on her team experience. “It’s been fun.”
After becoming an official IHSA sport in 2025, this year’s seniors have watched the sport continue to grow, and served as an inspiration to all of the new players.
“Don’t stress the try outs, go to the practices and give your best effort,” OH senior Maliyah Gossett said. “Give it your all even when no one is watching, because trust me someone is always watching.”
The seniors have shown that even in the second year of this being a sport they are willing to put in all of their hard work for one last season.
With a touchdown from OH senior Destiny Hicks (who has earned 51.1 receiving yards per game and 17 total TDs) and another two from juniors Addisyn Roberts and Sophie Augustine (who has earned 39.7 yards per game), these girls brought home another victory for our flag football team on this special night.
With a major focus to work on offensive and defensive work as a team, this group of girls has proved what they would do to work their way to the top and bring home more victories throughout the season.
Wins this season include dominations over Joliet West on Sept. 17 (47-0), St. Charles East on Sept. 13 (40-0) and against Huntly on Sept. 12 (26-0). The team’s only loss was to Oswego East (13-12) on Sept. 15 in a tight game.
As this is the third season of flag football, the senior players leave a remarkable grounding from all their hard work and dedication for each other to be passed down to the underclassmen to continue further on.
“I’ve had so much fun, and I’ve felt like an overall model for them,” OH senior Hope Bukowski said. ” [I] have been helping [younger players] since this is all still so new for them.”
