At OH this spring, the girls’ lacrosse team is entering its second year with a growing roster and stronger team chemistry. OH players practice daily and prepare for upcoming games. The team aims to build a competitive varsity program and a positive team environment.

“I wanted to play a spring sport and try something new and fun, and that’s why I joined the team,” said OH junior defender Reagan Zaccardi. “We’ve had practice every day and opportunities for team bonding, which has helped create a really good atmosphere, especially with a lot of new and returning players.”

With both returning and new athletes, the team has focused on improving skills, building connections, and adjusting to the demands of a developing varsity-level program.

“I think we’re doing really well, especially with a lot of new players coming in,” Zaccardi said. “We still have a lot of work to do since it’s only the second week, but we’re getting better each and every day.”

As one of the newer sports at OH, girls’ lacrosse continues to grow, attracting both experienced players and beginners looking to try something new.

“I’ve been playing for about 10 years, so when there was a team at the high school, I just wanted to join,” said OH senior midfielder Mackenzie Wickie. “We get along very well. Even with a younger team, everyone is really fun and nice, and you can see that chemistry on the field when we’re making passes and connections.”

The program has experienced significant growth, with an increasing number of students joining and contributing to a stronger, more unified team this season.

“We’ve built a solid team, especially with 27 girls this year compared to about 15 last year,” said OH senior goalie Joslynn Sheets, who helped start the program. “Our communication is really strong, and we’ve already built such a great family.”

As the team continues to develop, players emphasize the importance of mindset, effort, and teamwork both on and off the field.

“Your attitude and effort are the most important,” Zaccardi said. “Everything you do has a purpose, and what you put into practice shows in the game. It’s also about having fun and coming in with an open mind.”

With a growing roster, stronger chemistry, and a shared commitment to improvement, the OH girls lacrosse team is proving that its second season is not just about building a program, but building a team.
