Tomorrow, Capcom will release Resident Evil Requiem. The game was first announced by Capcom in July 2024 and officially unveiled at Summer Game Fest in June 2025. It is directed by Koshi Nakanishi, who previously directed Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.

Resident Evil Requiem is a single-player survival horror game featuring FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft and DSO agent Leon S. Kennedy as dual protagonists. The story alternates between their perspectives as the narrative progresses.

Grace’s segments emphasize survival horror, featuring limited resources that necessitate cautious encounters with enemies. Resident Evil Requiem commemorates the series’ 30th anniversary.

Former OH student Dylan Hospes noted, “Resident Evil has come a long way since the days of 10 controls. The evolution of technology has made the game seem more realistic and scary. The series became more action-focused, then returned to its horror roots.”

Over the course of its six-year development, Resident Evil Requiem underwent significant changes. According to Nakanishi, the game was initially conceived as an online open-world multiplayer game.

Still, the concept was scrapped during early development in favor of a more traditional single-player Resident Evil game, as the development team felt that it “wasn’t what the fans wanted.”

Dylan says, “I’m expecting  since Leon is there horror and probably more fanservice, which I am okay with, but you know, a scary time, but a lot of replay value as well.”

What you should expect from Resident Evil Requiem: Grace is constantly pursued by a monster throughout the game, and to avoid detection, the player can crouch to make less noise and hide under objects like tables. The monster can also stalk the player through walls and ceilings, but the player can distract the monster by collecting and throwing glass bottles found throughout the environment.

The player has a lighter that can be used to illuminate dark areas; however, the light will also attract the monster’s attention. Leon’s gameplay sections emphasize action and combat, allowing him to use both firearms and melee attacks to defeat zombie enemies. In addition to a limited-durability hatchet, Leon can pick up weapons from defeated enemies and use them as well.

Requiem allows players to switch between first-person and third-person perspectives at any time, marking a departure from recent Resident Evil entries that featured exclusively first-person gameplay. First-person perspective is the default for Grace’s sections and third-person for Leon’s sections.

First-person offers “tense, realistic gameplay” according to Capcom, while third-person is “ideal for people who enjoy action-packed gameplay.” Dylan Says” I hope it’s good. I hope every game is good, you know, but Resident Evil is a really big series, having a bad game would disappoint a lot of people, so I hope it’s good.”oid detection, the player can crouch to make less noise and hide under objects like tables.
