When looking back on the 2010’s, Bruno Mars dominated the music industry, creating albums such as “Doo-Wops & Hooligans,” “Unorthodox Jukebox,” and “24K Magic.” That’s where the spark of Mars’ character started to shine.
Randomly, on Jan. 5, Mars went to the social media platform ‘X’ and made a post claiming, “My album is done.”
Mars’ fans got super worked up for his new album drop. On Jan.8, he dropped the single “I Just Might” onto all streaming platforms to tease “The Romantic,” releasing on Feb. 27, and fans have been going crazy over it, with it immediately climbing up the ranks and becoming the #1 on Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks as of Jan. 26.
“I really liked the single that he dropped, it reminded me of one of his older songs, ‘Locked Out of Heaven,’” said OH senior Ryan Dejesus Alicea.
When Mars broke his nearly 10-year solo hiatus, it had his fans ecstatic as he was in Las Vegas for numerous years performing different shows. Many people believed that he was in debt because of his partnership with MGM Resorts International.
They later denied these claims, stating “MGM and Bruno’s partnership is longstanding and rooted in mutual respect” and that any other “speculation otherwise is completely false,” according to Jenn Michaels, the Senior Vice-President of Public Relations at MGM, as published in Forbes.
The song, “I Just Might,” according to Auralcave, states, “Bruno Mars plays a single man who has set his sights on an attractive woman in a club. He doesn’t know her yet, but he has been observing her closely. Her walk is hypnotic, and since they haven’t spoken yet, Bruno wonders if her personality will match her visual magnetism once she opens her mouth.”
The song is an upbeat tune that has the goal of making the listeners dance, and his fans loved it. Mars’ voice in the song is captivating, as well as the instrumentals, causing it to have a more jazzy-pop feel to it.
“I think it’s super fun, I think it’s super jazzy, and I love the vibe a lot,” said OH senior Hailey Pattison.
With the announcement of “The Romantic,” naturally, a world tour was later announced on his Instagram. Originally, there were 38 dates ranging across the U.S. When the tickets dropped to the public, Pollstar reported, “Live Nation North America claimed it saw the largest single-day ticket sales in the company’s history. With high demand, Mars and the promotion giant shared they’re adding 31 shows to the trek, which will now span nearly 70 shows across North America, Europe, and the UK.”
We’re excited to listen to the release of “The Romantic,” and see where Mars’ creative abilities take him.
“I do hope this album brings much positivity and growth within him,” Pattison said.
We do, too.
