OH senior Brandon Guzman recently started selling homemade desserts after discovering a passion for baking. Inspired by desserts and treats he saw online, he created postresdebrandon Insta to share his skills and reach a wider audience in his community. His small business has already gained attention from students hungry to try his desserts.

“What inspired me was seeing so many pastries on the Internet, and I have a passion for baking as well,” said Guzman.

“I made it with the sole purpose of selling my pastries to see what people opinionated about them! I created my page on Instagram to promote my business and to reach out to a broader audience, and so far it has been going well,” a modest Guzman smiled.

Guzman first started when he was in his freshman year. His first pastry he ever experimented with was pumpkin spice chocolate chip cookies. He took a break from baking because he was afraid to make more mistakes, but soon picked it back up around his junior year and created red velvet cake pops with brookies. From there, he grew his skills and began to introduce his desserts to his community.

He also sells a variety of desserts that include tres leches cakes, cakepops, cookies, cheesecake and cheesecake bites, loaves/breads with various flavors, cupcakes, danishes, swiss roll, cinnamon rolls, and desserts from Mexico. His popular items tend to be his Ferrero Tres Leches and his Cookies and Cream Cookies.

Ziyi Rojas, a senior at OH, said, “He generally does put a lot of time and effort into making them, and I do think he puts a lot of care into making them.” Guzman continues to grow his dessert business by experimenting with new recipes inspired by his family traditions and recipes, online bakers, and his own creativity as well.

Guzman promotes his new dessert business mainly through his Instagram page, where he posts new treats and updates for his followers as well. He also plans to soon hand out business cards around the school to spread the word. Much of his upcoming success has come from his friends and clients spreading the word to others.

“I believe that students like his desserts because there is a variety to choose from, and they are very affordable. They are very enjoyable and look appetizing as well,“ said OH senior Dyani Torres.

As his dessert business continues to grow, Guzman hopes to continually improve his recipes and skills while also balancing his schoolwork, orders, and development of new future desserts.
