This past Monday, Senior Kyle Taylor wrestled his way to earn the title Mr. Oswego. The Mr. Oswego event added some school spirit and entertainment into Homecoming week and this is possibly the first time that a WWE-type of performance has won Mr. Oswego. “I think Mr. Oswego is an opportunity for a lot of people to get more, like, recognition.” Sydney Shonibare, OH senior and President of the student council, said.
Mr. Oswego is an event purely made for entertainment. It involves senior boys performing and doing skits for the crowd to see their personalities and to vote based on that. All of the senior contestants had entertaining performances that the crowd enjoyed.
“I thought it was just like a pretty funny thing that our school hosted and it seemed pretty interesting to me…” Taylor said.
Taylor’s wrestling skit and personality entertained the crowd and he ended up winning Mr. Oswego. He got the idea because he’s a huge wrestling fan and thought it was an idea that hasn’t been done before so he decided to do that for Mr. Oswego. “I think it was a cool way of showing people that the talent show doesn’t necessarily have to be, like, singing..” Taylor said.
Everyone was excited since this event usually gets cancelled because of the lack of contestants but it did not get cancelled this year.
“The fact that we could get it up and running again was really good,” Shonibare said.
The pageant gave the contestants an opportunity to show their personality and the talents that they have. It was also a great way for them to have fun with the friends that watched them perform. “It makes the experience more enjoyable for me personally.” Shonibare added.
There were more acts that appealed to the crowd. There was Haven Nguyen’s singing, Matthew Bank’s singing and guitar playing, Wesley Miller’s drum solo, Braden Pawlisz’s parody of Amish Paradise and Brayden Thompson solving a rubix cube under a few seconds. The pageant had so many activities that everyone was able to enjoy.

Mr. Oswego was an amazing opportunity for the contestants to show off what they love to do, what they’re good at and to show the type of person they are. “We were going to cancel this year, but we finally had enough people to do it.” Shonibare said. “It was short and sweet but it was, I think, perfect.”
