As the new season starts, the era of Coach Jim Melton comes to an end and the era of Coach Christine Tabayoyong becomes the new coach for the girls’ tennis team, creating a three-year streak of new coaches for the team.

“I think the coach was an amazing pick,” said senior tennis player Brianna Perry. “She was the head coach my freshman year, [and] she really helped me grow.”

With high hopes for Coach Tabayoyog’s direction of the team, changing coaches can make a team shift in creating new relationships between players, managers, and the coach herself. Luckily for the team, this is not a challenge.

“I think the team has good connections,” said OH senior Jorge Santillan, one of the tennis team managers. “It’s easy for them to stay social and have a good relationship with the coach.”

As the team is on a close 3-2 streak, they are in a tight spot. But the team is no stranger to the game, and neither is Tabayoyong.

“We don’t really struggle, and the new coach isn’t an obstacle for our team at all,” said Santillan.

The team thinks highly about Coach Tabayoyong, though nothing much has changed since the past coaches; her devotion and determination are top-notch.

“The old coaches are no longer on the team because of their [need for] personal times,” said Perry explained.

With positive reviews about the new coach and her efforts for the team, players like Perry and manager Santillian have high hopes that Tabayoyong will stay for next year and so on.

Coach Tabayoyong was not able to be reached for comment by press time.
