The students of OH will have a new sci-fi show to watch this month with their friends and family with the release of the new season of “Black Mirror,” now streaming on Netflix.

According to Netflix, “Black Mirror” is an “anthology series that reveals humanity’s worst traits, greatest innovations, and more.”

The show has a dystopian theme, showcases the dark side of technology, and critiques modern-day society.

“I feel like the show is calling me out sometimes,” said OH senior Harley Engdhal, an OH senior.

“Black Mirror” keeps OH students entertained, not only through the intense plot twists and concepts but also through realism. The show depicts human nature by highlighting human behavior such as obsession and jealousy, as well as political and social conflicts that have the potential to shape the dystopian futures featured in the show.

“The way humans act in the show is so realistic and scary that it feels real,” said OH senior Greta Wolkee.

Although season 7 brings a consistent dystopian theme, it doesn’t stick to just one genre. The show uses concepts of the misuse of technology and how, in the wrong hands, it can cause even the most average person become demonized. This season feels incredibly realistic. Like, this could totally happen and maybe is happening right now kind of realistic.

“I feel like season seven doesn’t have a genre. There’s a lot of sci-fi, horror, and even comedy,” stated OH junior Heidi Glaser.

Because the show being an anthology, each episode brings a new story, genre, and concept, allowing room for more creativity and ideas. One standout show, personally, included the central character who is being recorded. She signs up for a streaming service, and she bypasses the terms and agreements (which who ever reads that fine print!?!), and then she realizes that there is a show that is about her life.

This is what I’m talking about: it’s this kind of reality. I don’t read the fine print when I get the terms and agreements. I could find myself in this same position. Who is to say that I couldn’t unknowingly also find myself the center of some creepy streaming show?

The show is described as “black scrying mirrors and the dark reflection of a television screen, and each episode, while potentially connected thematically, generally operates within its isolated universe,” according to Buzzfeed.

Even though there will be no story continuations, students can spot easter eggs featured throughout the new season.

“‘Black Mirror’” Season 7 features fun facts and Easter eggs for die-hard fans, including references to previous episodes and characters,” according to Radio Times.

The long-awaited season 7 continues to carry the dystopian theme of the series while continuing to surprise the students of OH.
