Podcast: The art of sampling in music

In this 42Fifty Entertainment podcast, 42Fifty Podcast Editor Ethan Monahan and his co-host Torian Duncombe take you for a ride in their musical time machine to learn about the art of sampling in music, which happens more often than one might realize.

Sampling in music is when one artist uses or samples a bit of a song or sound from a piece of music from a past artist or other sound source.

Whether it just be a drum beat, lyric, melody, or background vocals, sampling is everywhere.

Sampling has really made itself a staple in hip-hop, with many songs of the past and today taking samples from older 70s soul and r&b all the way to 2010s pop music.

Listen in for your hosts’ deep dive into the world of sampling, how it’s done, and some of today’s songs that younger generations will know by heart and some classics that older listeners will enjoy. They’ll also tell you about the roots for each song, paying them the appropriate homage.
