As they approach the end of the season, OH varsity baseball athletes and their coaches reflect on their experiences with the team this year.

“This season so far has been pretty good. We hit a rough point where we lost a couple of games, but I believe we are back on track and we must keep striving to be better every day as a team,” said senior first baseman Dylan King.

OH baseball has a current record of 18-7, representing their determination to succeed in all competitions. The varsity coach speaks on the athletes’ skills to create a firm foundation for the team.

“We have a lot of strong senior leadership and a group that competes at a high level, and our offensive output is much improved,” said Head Coach Joe Giarrante.

With a strong team of seniors, this year’s team has made great progress from last season.

“Feels like we got way more experience out there, especially a full senior lineup, and feels more like a brotherhood this year than last year,” said senior catcher Easton Ruby

Their bond has grown strong as they finish up the season. In the beginning, they played some strong teams that changed their mindset going into upcoming games.

“Earlier in the season, we beat Benet, and they were ranked. That was a good win, I thought we got much closer from that win,” said senior center fielder Donovan Williams.

The energy from their teammates can make a huge difference from the dugout to the field.

“Teamwork in our team is huge, but baseball is an individual sport as well as a team sport. Everybody has to do their solo job so the team can succeed,” King said.

The team has done their fair share of off-season training as a team and individually. This has been shown in many of their games.

“All our seniors have matured as hitters, and they represent OHS the right way off the field,” Giarrante said.

This team has many goals for the rest of the season. When asked about the upcoming plans, Ruby had some things to share.

“Our main goal is to win all-conference, be up there for all states, and get to state, possibly,” Ruby said.

As the last few games are coming up close, the boys are going to have to fight till the end to get the finale they want.

Williams said they’re “battling back, scoring runs, and trying to win the game late.”
