The OH robotics team Gear it Forward traveled to Huntsville, AL, to compete in the Rocket City Regional Competition from Mar 12 to Mar 15, with 44 competing teams, earning multiple awards.
The team won an Autonomous Award and a Championship Qualifying award, earning the title of Regional Winners at this event. They went 11-0 in qualification matches.
“It was fantastic, I’ve been supporting the team for 12 years,” said OH former robotics coach Ryan Pentzien.
“I was formerly a coach with the team, but I tend to have a lot of students that come through my classes that also participate, so it was neat to see some success in Alabama,” Pentzien said.
“Our team was very excited about our win, and we are looking forward to competing at the World Championship,” said OH robotics team member and freshman Vienna Iacovella.
The team has qualified to compete in the world championship. These events are big deals for the robotics team and give “Gear it Forward” outstanding moments to show all the hard work and dedication put in throughout the year.
“Along with our success, many other teams won very prestigious awards, which excites us because we are able to work with those teams and learn from each other,” said Iacovella.
Not only is OH’s robotics team succeeding in competition, but they are also taking moments to acknowledge other teams, and learning to work together to grow their skills even further.
The robotics team has had lots of success in the past two years and was also able to compete in the world championship in Houston that took place April 17 2024, where they placed 35th out of 75 other teams.
The team also won several awards like the “Engineering Inspiration Award” at the Central Illinois Regional Competition on Mar. 16 2024.
“Gear it Forward” works hard to earn spots and awards like these, and the win at the Rocket City Regional Competition is yet another great success added to the history of robotics at OH.
