As graduation and college application deadlines quickly approach, OH students are looking for a better understanding of Naviance, a program that partners with many high schools to help students prepare for college.
“As seniors, students use Naviance to send their college applications, transcripts, and letters of recommendation. The more familiar with it students are, the more they will be able to find all of its uses,” said Director of Student Services Patti Marcinko.
A great way to get the most out of Naviance is to explore its features and get to know it better so that you are ready when it comes to using Naviance to apply for college. For help with Naviance, the OH College and Career Center or Student Services can be of assistance. Naviance is best accessed through the “My Portal” Classlink pre-loaded links on school-issued Chromebooks.
According to OH counselor Jamie Gabel, a good place to start in Naviance is Super Match. “Students can use several different filters to search for colleges in Super Match,” said Gabel.
Supermatch on Naviance can be found in the “Colleges” tab under “Find your fit.” Using this tool will help students find and apply for colleges that best align with their academic interests.
“SuperMatch College Search allows you to input the criteria that is important to you and then it matches you to the colleges with a percentage of your match. That is a great starting point to begin your search, especially if you are overwhelmed,” said College and Career Center Secretary TracyAnne Kroger.

Naviance has a useful tool for helping students find colleges that best suit their career interests and academic goals. It also offers a simpler way to get recommendation letters for the colleges they apply to.
“Once a student determines who will be writing letters of recommendation, they can formally request them through Naviance. There is a link in their Naviance account on the home screen under ‘Colleges’ where they will send the request to their teachers. The teachers can then load their letters of recommendation into the student’s Naviance account,” said Marcinko.
Naviance allows students to request letters directly from teachers or counselors and track the status of the submissions all in one website.
“I would recommend sending an email to the person you are requesting from to let them know you are sending them something and maybe even a little about the school you are interested in, the area of study and what the letter is for, and what date you need the letter submitted,” said Kroger.
Students will want to make sure that the person they are requesting from is informed and prepared so that the teacher or faculty member can provide the information that is most necessary in the letter.
“Naviance has really cool features that allow you to see what schools you have applied to, what type of admission, and any other deadlines. This is so helpful for students to be able to keep a timeline for when they need to submit their applications,” said Kroger.
Naviance is an amazing way to keep yourself organized when applying for college. OH has a college and career center for students to take advantage of if they have any further questions or need guidance.
“Take your time and explore all that Naviance has to offer. Ask questions and get help when you need it,” said Kroger.
