As the leaves have fallen and the winter season approaches, OH athletes are starting to gear up for the exciting winter sports. With athletes and coaches dedicated to excelling in their sport, fans can begin to look forward to a thrilling schedule of competitions and events.
Boys Basketball
Under the leadership of head coach Nicholas Oraham, the boys basketball team is coming off a competitive season and looks to build on their progress from last year. With an outstanding group of returning players including Dasean Patton and Tyrell Mays, the boys aim to dominate conference play.
Mays said, “I feel good about this upcoming season, our energy is different and it is a whole new atmosphere.”
As they move to the beginning of the season, this team is getting ready to improve every key area of the game to lead to success. Mays also speaks on key areas that could push them to the playoffs this year that every basketball team strives for.”We aren’t perfect but are chemistry is pretty well so far me, and it shows how we pick one another up and can take constructive criticism from one another. We will do good things because of that.”
Girls Basketball
The OH girl’s basketball team coached by David Lay is equally determined to make a mark. With a mix of underclassmen and upperclassmen, the team plans to bring energy and toughness to the court. Keep an eye on junior Ashley Cook and senior Maggie Voller as they lead the charge for the winning of the Panthers.
According to Cook, the chemistry advantage of the team is very high, “This team has created friendships on and off the court.” With as much success as this team had last year, we look forward to seeing how they represent OH this year. Early matchups against conference rivals should set the tone for this team for the season.
Boys and Girls Wrestling
The boys and girls wrestling team is ready to hit the mats with determination and strength. After a strong showing in last year’s tournaments, the team has its sights set on sending wrestlers to the state championships. Key athletes to watch for include Brayden Swanson on the OH boy’s wrestling team and for girl’s team including Mikaela Busse.
Swanson speaks on their goals for this season, “Some team goals is just to have as much fun as possible and achieve as much as we can. Although we are mostly a senior-heavy team, we all have a goal to be in the Conference Championship”. The teams have all decided to work hard this year and do better than last year. Led by Andrew Cook and Gregory Scott, this team is ready to dominate and emphasize the importance of technique as the foundation of their future success.
Boys and Girls Bowling
The OH bowling teams are set to roll into another exciting season. The boy’s team is anchored by Henry Nelson, whose focus and consistency make him a leader in the conference. Meanwhile, the girl’s team led by Rhiannon Reynolds is ready to surpass last year’s impressive finish into state again. Both teams have a reputation for handling team spirit, and their matches always seem to be a fan favorite.
Boys Swimming and Diving
The boys’ swimming and diving team is making waves into the start of this season as they prepare for the competition they will face. Under the guidance of Erik Enslen, the boy’s team is ready to qualify for school records and conference champions again. There are going to be many swimmers to watch out for this year. Standout athlete Ethan Schrader is ready to represent the school this year with his experience and talents.
With a wide range of diverse sports and talented athletes, OH is excited for this winter season to come about. Be sure to mark your calendars throughout the chilly time to come out and support these teams throughout tournaments, events, and matches.
