The OH varsity boys basketball season is starting back up with a new head coach, Nicholas Orham, and many new faces on the varsity court the basketball team is ready for the new season.
“I’m a relationship builder, and I think the kids have picked up on that pretty quickly and I think I’ve built really good relationships, not just with our 14 guys, but really all the guys in our program,” Orham.
The introduction of a new coach can be difficult for some teams but the Oswego Panthers are already building the foundations of great relationships with the new coach.
“I like him. I feel like he’s very goal-oriented, and he’s the person to try and turn this program around,” said varsity starter, junior Mariano Velasco.
The coach is not the only new face on the varsity scene. Freshman Ethan Vahl is starting on the team and has already made an impression.
“He can contribute to our team a lot,” said Velasco. “He’s very talented and I think he’ll fit well with what we have right now.”
Vahl entering his high school career on varsity will surely impact the team but the stand-out player on the team remains to be Desean Patton.
“He’s probably our best scorer, but he’s also, you know, probably our most unselfish kid too, which is, you know, kind of, it’s a good thing, but it’s also a bad thing. Like, we want him to take a good majority of our shots,” said Orham.
With Patton taking the leadership position the team is surely in good shape. Pattons experience on the team puts him in the perfect position to lead the team to state this year.
“I think I stand as the leader of the team. I’ve been on varsity for three years, so I think I got the most experience to lead the guys,” said Patton.
The Oswego Panthers are in great condition going into the 2024-2025 season and fans have said it will be exciting to see what the team has to accomplish throughout the season.
