On Nov. 10 at Wormley Heritage Park, Oswego held the 39th annual Gobbler Hobbler. It featured runners and volunteers from around the Oswego community.
The course went through the Fox Chase neighborhood. It allowed runners to see the Fox Chase community.
“I like running through all of the neighborhoods, and I think it is just a fun experience to do with my family, and you get to see all kinds of runners from all around town,” said OH senior, cross country, and track runner Lucy Cler.
The race is also beginner-friendly. It featured the mashed potato mile, a mile-long course, and the Gobbler Hobbler, a 10K course.
“I always wanted to run this race but I haven’t done it in the past, it was a new experience for me. The course was on the route I trained for my half marathon so it was cool to run that” said OH senior Carter Carson who has been running for 6 months.
Not only were there races, but there were many volunteer opportunities for students around the course. These include water stations, traffic directions, pancake making, and more.
“[When volunteering] I get to meet a lot of new friends and people I don’t talk to in school. It’s nice seeing them in a setting where you work together,” said OH senior and NHS member Mya Whelpley.
Pancakes have been a staple of the Gobbler Hobbler for many years. They were given to runners after they finished their races.
“When I signed up I had no idea what to do, but making the pancakes was really fun,” said OH senior Kyra Pattison.
Overall, the Gobbler Hobbler is a great way for students and community members to celebrate the upcoming Thanksgiving and holiday season. For more holiday races, Wheaton holds their annual Reindeer Run in downtown Wheaton on Dec. 7.
“I had a really good time, it was fun doing it with friends and also the coordinators were really nice and of course making pancakes is really fun,” said OH senior Madison Marx.
